I found out about an amazing herb today via Cathode who stopped in to leave a comment. The object of my fascination is the MUSHROOM PLANT
The leaves are extremely rich in chlorophyll, therefore, valuable for blood cleansing and building.
Mushroom plant leaves have 3% protein (higher in protein than mushrooms); calorie content 33 per 100 grams of leaves, calcium 272mg to 100 grams of leaves (this makes it extremely valuable as a food, as the calcium content is considerably higher than most foods).
This low growing, attractive, perennial, clumping plant which gets its common name from the slight mushroom flavour of the leaves (flavour increased by cooking). The dark green leaves are oval-shaped, thick and slightly crinkled. Mushroom Plant will tolerate most soils although it prefers a moderate to rich loam and it dislikes waterlogging. Plant it in full sun to medium shade. It will survive light frosts with only slight damage.
The leaves and stems are eaten raw in salads or cooked as a green vegetable in stir-fries or in soups or casseroles.
I have ordered mine, although they are presently out of stock, hopefully it wont take long. Whilst I cannot abide mushrooms the remainder of the family adore them, who knows, this totally different texture may be a new beginning for me in terms of "mushroom flavours" LOL
I love all the things we can learn from each other...don't you?
Take care of you and yours:)

We can indeed learn from others....and you have just taught me something. I have never heard of this plant......as a vegetarian it would indeed be useful. However, with waterlogged soil and winter temps sometimes dropping to -9C..........
Hi Cheryl, what about a hot house, or in a pot in a sheltered position for winter? You could then move it out where you wanted in the summer.
Blessings:)
hey Molly, glad you found some!
I wouldnt say it is a strong mushroom flavour, but is a definite mushroom taste.
My brother cant stand mushrooms (he has a whole issue with fungus) but he tolerated this quite well.
I gave cwm goch a cutting today, so may the non fungus mushroomy goodness spread! LOL.
