AT LAST!
We have moved and are settled! Everything except the pictures hung on the walls. It feels wonderful to finally relax! Work was so hectic in the middle of the move I was beginning to worry I might not retain my sanity!...ok, what little I have left!
I sat tonight after work and looked at the garden....ok, I should say where the garden will be. OMG, talk about a blank canvas! There is a load of bricks and pavers in one corner, a home made tank of some description that needs tearing apart and some serious ground levelling needed. So...out with the phone book and let the fingers do the walking!
We plan on having the yard levelled, a swale built in one section and a 2' deep pond dug out where one section of lawn is. Once that has been done I will import some top soil and begin building the garden areas as the soil in the yard is compacted clay, sand and rubble. These areas will be home to the fruit trees, berries & vine fruits, the vegetables will be going into a purpose built shade house area filled with worm wicking beds. Interesting to note that as a child everything was grown in full sun, we can't do that here nowdays, it burns away!
With a couple of years, much composting and tender loving care I can again have my 50 fruits and berries going, time is all thats needed! Expect to see much babbling about activities here over the next 24 months lol
Take care of you and yours:)

So glad the move went well and is over for now! Let the fun begin, hey?
Good for you...I'm hppy for ya!
Thanks Hermit!
My place was a blank canvas when I moved here too and it's half wonderful half over whelming. Looking forward to see what you do! (Take pics!) :c)
PS. Nice to "meet" you!
Babble away!
Hi Pheenix & welcome to my ramblings:) Love your bedroom revamp btw!
Wild, LOL, I am sure I will as I develop this lot!
I'm a new visitor to your blog and I will be interested to compare your experiences with my own.
I moved from Sydney to my current home (country town 4 hours west) almost three years ago. One reason for the move was to have a house with a garden: an impossibility for me in Sydney.
Prior to my move I had almost no gardening experience so everything I've done has been by trial and error (with emphasis on the latter). I also had a "blank canvas" but over these few years have converted it into the gardening equivalent of a kindergarten finger painting, so before long I'll have to more or less start over again.
I'm therefore looking forward to reading how you, with your prior experience, will tackle your blank canvas.
Tim
It didn't seem to take you too long to get everything unpacked and put away. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the garden - before and afters.
take care
Pip
Hi Pip. We were allowed early access, so had been carting and unpacking boxes since Wednesday last week, hence it was only the furniture to come across on Friday, made things much easier to do in 2 lots.
Photos will be posted today :)
Hi Tim & welcome to the mad ramblings:) I am lucky in that I have had some experience, however, like all gardeners, I am prone to deciding that I dont want something where I planted it earlier anyway LOL....its all the journey:)
Congratulations on being all moved in. We closed on our new house but are still trying to get it livable before we can move in. I am fortunate that the soil is fabulous and I have been able to get my gardening started.
Good luck with your garden adventures.
Judy
Hey Judy, thanks and good luck with your pojects too! The soil here will take a couple of years to get into shape, but thats ok, worm wicking beds do all the vegies and the trees wont take long to establish, after that its just lots of compost, compost, compost lol
Just think - what a great opportunity for before and after progress pics!
Happy housewarming to you. Look forward to some pics.
Hi Nat, and this time I get to start from the very beginning instead of trying to work around anothers ill placed plantings lol.
Thanks for the housewarming wishes, there will be a ton of pics, and of course we can have one of our EPBA brunches here!
Hey Molly! Congratulations on finally getting moved. I hope everything goes well and I wish you much energy on starting your new gardens.
Hey ER! Thanks, after the bomb site I had here a few days ago, looking at order as opposed to chaos certainly feels good lol.
I read this earlier but didn't have time to comment. Needless to say, I'm really happy the move is done and dusted. Now the hard work begins!!
Those blank canvases can really inspire the imagination. I'm looking forward to seeing everything you bring to life in your new home. :)
Hi Chris & thanks! Yes, the work begins, however it's the garden so thats always fun for me lol.
Expect lots of pics along the journey:)
