....as I look at the pictures of the Gulf oil spill. I can genuinely say that I would forgo every oil related product tomorrow to prevent this ever happening again. We have become so unashamedly greedy in our desire to have everything so easy we have forgotten we share this magical planet with others.........or do we just not care as long as we are comfortable? Can one of us look in the mirror and not feel guilt at our contribution to the state of our planet and the horrors we visit daily upon the creatures that share it with us?

Well said.
Sadly I think greed has taken over this world and most who live upon it.
The scary thing is how are they going to stop this disaster?
Take care,
Tania
That thought scares me too Tania, for the sake of our planet and its creatures I hope its very soon, what we are seeing on the surface is a "drop in the ocean" compared to what is happening underneath...
Even more worrying is the fact that these problems wont go away for decades, even if they clean up every drop...which they cannot do....
The really sad part is the hundreds of thousands killed that we don't see...
Oh so true...and I can't bare to look at these poor creatures. I hear the cries of mother earth and I feel the guilt of our gluttony. I love our planet and every living thing on her...and I will decrease my carbon footprint even more till I can walk upon her and leave no more footprints.
I couldnt agree more Mayberry, good to see you too:)
It's so very sad. I can't even imagine the effects that this is going to have on that area for years and years to come.
Hi Molly,
I couldn't agree with you more.
It would be nice to think that this disaster will change people's attitude to how they live but I doubt it will.
What surprises me is that something like this hasn't happened before. It's all so bloody wrong.
Oh, it is so heartbreaking... for the eco-systems, the creatures, the communities... will people` learn from this? We can only hope...
Makes me weep with sorrow for all the animals.
D-S, I too am looking at what else we can do, another wake up call to us.....trouble is some choose to be deaf....
ROBIN, the long term effects are more than a little scary, I agree!
NEV, I agree, I think some prefer comfort over long term benefits!
DIXIE, I wish, however like many I suspect the wake up call will only come for many when it slaps them in the face!
OLIVE, me too!
Thanks all for taking the time to comment:)
I downloaded a great interview with Tim Flannery and an Indian energy co. exec on Melbourne ABC 774.
They believe this "accident" has already made a profound difference and compared it with Chernobyl.
They also gave hope that while the Australian political scene is depressing there are great things happening in India and China and it is only in the US and Aust that sustainability and climate action is divided on political lines.

Also another great download for those concerned with why continue to deny the need to change:

I also believe that Gav. Thanks for the links too, excellent!
I dont think this disaster will prove to be much of a wake-up call - companies are still wanting to drill for oil off Australia's coastline! Why does it seem to be such a hard lesson to learn? The spill in the gulf is not the first and it wont be the last. It's horrible and it makes me angry beyond words!

Sorcha, nobody wants to heed the lesson, they may have to change some of their ways.....it's yet another "Inconvenient Truth"
