BITS AND BOBS...
Well there is little happening in the garden with the veggies and fruits. Our biggest challenge is the bloody frosts! I could scream blue murder after seeing some of my beautiful trees frozen solid!!
This winter has been the harshest since they have been record keeping. Not only have they gone on day after day but in very low -C numbers. To see the bushes turn into something that looks like a flame thrower has been through them, and the fruit frozen solid breaks my heart :(
On the up side some of the fruits are doing well, the yellow cherry guavas have fruit (unlike the Indian Cream Guavas that have been frozen). The Bok Choy, rhubarb, silverbeet, carrots & lettuce are going berserk, time to gift some to family & friends I think. I purchased another 4 strawberry guavas, 3 have been put into the garden and one is to take to Mum & Dad, they grow well in this region.
I spent most of this weekend doing tidy up and weeding. Winter, though I love it is very slow in the garden here, not a lot in and not a lot to do. Having said that we are putting the remainder of the side fence up, once done the lot will be painted to match the sheds.
Last year one of the fruits I brought in came with peach leaf curl, so this weekend will mean some spraying before buds really develop too far, otherwise it means waiting another year and weakening the tree further! I have never seen hibiscus burn in this area from frosts, but everywhere you look they are, as are my passionfruits which were just realling beginning to take off. Hopefully they will survive this lot. I will be putting in some more trees before the next winter, in hopes they will protect the trees under them! *mumbles more expletives*
The new car arrived this week. Not that we wanted one, our 10 year old was running perfectly, however not a lot of choice, it was written off when some fool with a license from a wheatie box decided to cut in front of hubby who had the right of way on the highway. Despite my grumbling I am just glad they both walked out if it with nothing more than a few brusises!
LOL, I've just realised what a whinge this post was....my first grumble since beginning this blog so I am sure you will forgive me or be mildly amused :)
Hope your week ahead is a good one:)
