And Autumn has arrived!

Well we are officially in Autumn!

Autumn in Aussie is the perfect time to get so many of those jobs done you have been thinking about for the last few months.

Trim your trees and shrubs, it will encourage new growth and keep things neat.

Now is a good time too for getting those roses trimmed, the mulch laid, the herbs that will replace your summer stock in and for good measure plant a few hanging baskets out with some pretty annuals like pansies.

Prune Geraniums, Fuchsias (use prunings for propagation by cuttings) and keep an eye on those weeds, pull them before they get a foothold on your garden!
Put in some Strawberry runners, passionfruit and banana passionfruit, rhubarb, blueberries, artichoke, beans, beetroot, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots (try the tiny, fat, fast-maturing ones in cold climates), chives, , leek, lettuce, white onions, salad greens such as corn salad, mizuna, mitsuba, cress, red Italian chicory, silver beet, spring onions, pak choy, and lots of English spinach/silverbeet with a few turnips thown in for good measure!

Now is the time to make new plants from cuttings. Take 10cm cuttings from hardwood herbs such as rosemary and bay or natives such as banksias, grevillea and coastal rosemary. Remove the lower leaves, dip cuttings into hormone powder and pot in small containers of premium potting mix. Keep just moist and shelter from strong wind and sun.

Keep an eye out for pests like aphids on roses and caterpillars on tomatoes and grapevines.

If you are like me and have been in an almost catatonic state because of the heat, then now is the time to rise and shine! The sun is warm but the breezes are cooler, it is a delight being out in the garden now!

Enjoy your garden:)

Oh I hear you. It has been too hot to do much at all. It is still hot here but I am getting the seeds in so that they are ready to go in a few weeks.
